Grade II Shop Refurbishment

Overview: Refurbishment

Location: High Wycombe

Value: £160k

Zeno Construction has completed the refurbishment of a Grade II listed shop in High Wycombe. The team were careful to ensure the balance of modern upgrades with the preserving the historic character of the building.

The refurbishment began with breaking out the existing slab to prepare for structural improvements to ensure the building's stability. Whilst woodworm treatment was carried out on the original timber framework to preserve its integrity and prevent future deterioration. A key structural job involved installing a new steel column to support a bowing beam across the shop. This reinforced the framework while maintaining the shop’s historical aesthetic.

To ensure usability, a new WC and kitchenette were installed, which provided modern conveniences without compromising the period features. The project also involved a full M&E rewire to modern safety and efficiency standards. To maintain authenticity, reclaimed wooden floorboards were installed throughout, ensuring a seamless blend of old and new.

A major focus was the bespoke shopfront, designed to stay true to the building’s heritage while incorporating subtle enhancements. The original metal grille was retained, preserving a distinctive historical element.

This project showcases Zeno Construction’s expertise in delivering sensitive restorations that respect historical significance while integrating essential modern improvements.
